Characteristics
Concrete deteriorates for various reasons, but the main ones that encourage the phenomenon to the point of exposing the reinforcing bars are:
- carbonation
- attack of chlorides (salts)
- freeze-thaw cycles
- acid attacks
In all these cases it happens that the reinforcing bars lose the protective film initially present and tend to oxidize leading to the birth of rust. The formation of rust is an expansive process and this causes the detachment of the concrete layer known as the concrete cover. It is therefore essential to prevent the progress of corrosion by restoring the basic passivating environment for the reinforcing rods. Rust converters lock in existing rust preventing future corrosion. Before proceeding with the treatment, it is sufficient to clean the metal surface from deposits of salts, detached rust, grease and dirt. With the treatment, the rust film formed on the iron surface will be transformed into magnetite, an inert substance that blocks the oxidation process of iron and its derivatives.
The chemical conversion of rust to magnetite will begin the moment the layer turns black. At the end of the conversion the reinforcing iron will be coated with a black film which will protect the iron making it functional again.

Applications
RUST CONVERTOR is an adhesion promoter for repair mortar. Turns rust into a very durable black polymer coating.
How to use
The surface must be clean, dry, free from grease, dirt and oil. Remove unstable rust and paint with coarse sandpaper or a wire brush.
- Shake well before use
- Apply when both the surface and the can have a temperature between +8°C and +25°C
- Hold the can at a distance of 20/30 cm from the surface, spray a thin and uniform layer of RUST CONVERTOR on the rusted metal. Apply 2-3 coats "wet on wet" without sagging
- Let the product act and dry
- The final dry result will be a black coating
- It is advisable to overpaint the surface at least 6 hours after curing
